*** how do i do this in a graphing calculator using the sequence command ?***
A group of baseball fans consists of 4 met fans , and 6 yankee fans. if 3 are selected at random to win tickets to the all start game. what is the porbality that:
A) there will be more met fans selected ?
B) only yankee fans selected?
C) Find the expected number, and standard deviation of met fans selected.
Need help with hypergeometric distribution! ( Sequence command in graphing calculator?)?
On the TI-83, it's in the LIST menu
OPS
5: seq
seq (4 C X * 6 C (3-x)/10C3, x, 0, 3)
This will give you the four probabilities, P(no mets fans), P(one MF), P(2MF), P(3MF)
If you type the command above followed by STO-%26gt;L1
seq (4 C X * 6 C (3-x)/10C3, x, 0, 3)-%26gt;L1
the four numbers will be stored in your graphing calculuator in a LIST. Press STAT, EDIT, 1:Edit... and the four numbers are in L1.
a) more mets fans = 2 or 3 mets fans
add the last two numbers in the list.
b) only yankee fans = no mets fans = first number in the list.
c) the expected # = (4/10)*3 = 1.2 Mets fans
for the standard deviation, there's probably a formula, but if you have a graphing calculator, then there's an easy way.
In L1, you have the probabilities. In L2, type 0, 1, 2, 3
Then type STAT, CALC, 1 Var-stats
1-Var Stats L2, L1
This calculates the standard deviation of the numbers in list 2, using the numbers in L1 as a frequency.
Hope that helps.
